2017. augusztus 28.

The University, in cooperation with the local government of Miskolc, organised and hosted the 20th World University Orienteering Championship in the summer of 2016. This event was selected out of over 30 university world championships for the “Best WUC 2016” award.

Dr. Csaba Deák, chancellor of the university, was present to accept the prestigious award from Luciano Cabral, vice-president of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in front of representatives of 144 nations at the Gala of the 2017 Taipei Universiade held in Taiwan.

The chancellor said that this was the first time that a Hungarian university had been granted an international award on this level, which leads to wider international recognition of Hungary and its values. He emphasised that the University should be proud of this award, especially as it has always put considerable emphasis on the role of sports in student life.

There was a record-breaking number of participants in the 20th World University Orienteering Championship (30 July–4 August, 2016), with 316 athletes taking part, representing 170 institutions of higher education from 34 countries.
