Second Announcement and Preliminary Program of the Conference on

History of Mathematics and Teaching of Mathematics

Miskolc, Hungary
2018. May 23-26.

Mathematics - a common language for Europe for a thousand years.

The aim of the conference is to present aspects of the History of Mathematics, including its impact on the Teaching of Mathematics, to provide a forum to meet each other, and to give an opportunity for young researchers to present their results on the history of mathematics. We invite our colleagues, students, graduate students and other researchers to take part in the meeting.

The meeting will be hosted by the University of Miskolc, its campus next to Miskolc-Tapolca, famous spa for its thermal cave-bath.

The scientific programme of the conference will be scheduled on 24th, 25th and 26th May 2018.

Accommodation and board

Accommodation will be booked for those who asked for, according to the nights You indicated in your registration form at the Guest house rooms in E/6 Kollégium, see map at http://www.uni-miskolc.hu/terkep

The payment for accommodation is asked to be done upon arrival, in HUF, there are some cash mashines in the campus, where major bankcards are accepted, in case you could not make a change in advance. 

The guest rooms accommodations do not include breakfast,  but there are small 2-3 buffets in the university buildings, one in Uni-Hotel's Uni-Cafe, where breakfast can be served. Similarly if you prefer self service at walking distance, cca 300 meters from the campus, there is a Lidl Supermarket, open each days, and the guest rooms have small tea-kitchens.

Accommodation can also be arranged by the participants themselves in the numerous hotels and guesthouses of the Miskolc-Tapolca spa, and Miskolc city.


The city is easily accessible by car and by train from Budapest (185 km), Kosice (90 km), Baia-Mare (210 km), Chop/Záhony (140 km).

It is important to know that if you are member of a nation within the EU, EEA country or Switzerland you are entitled to use for free the public transportation in Hungary if you are above the age 65 years, you need to pay only for extra charges like seat reservation for IC trains!

Travelling by car from Budapest to Miskolc

From Budapest you can reach Miskolc on the Highway M3/M30 and should take exit Miskolc -Kelet.  (Note that you will have to pay for the use of the highway – electronic highway sticker- at the one of petrol stations, see: http://www.hungary-vignette.eu/.

By plane you can arrive to Budapest Liszt F. Airport.

From the Budapest Liszt F. Airport a simple choice is to use an Airport Minibus service or public transport to the “Keleti Railway Station of Budapest. (Eastern railway station).

Travelling by train to Miskolc:

The trains start from the Keleti Railway Station of Budapest. A return ticket (in a second class compartment) at the moment costs about 8200 HUF if bought in Hungary.  Note that for Inter- City trains (IC) you must have a seat reservation ticket (about 600 HUF) also, but ask for sure at the cashier, here EUR is also accepted. Citizens over 65 travel for free, but the seat reservation is compulsory for them as well. You can also reach Miskolc from Košice by a direct train.

Local transport from Miskolc Railway Station (Miskolc-Tiszai pályaudvar) to the University Campus.

Take any tram line ( No. 1 or 2 ) and get off at the third stop  (Szinvapark). Cross the street parallel with the train line and take the bus No.12 or 20 into the direction of University Campus (the bus journey is about 20 minutes). In the Campus get off at the first stop near the UNI-HOTEL.

You will need to buy 2 prepaid tickets at the Miskolc-Tiszai railway station in a newspaper kiosk and validate them on the tram/bus, EU citizen over 65 travel for free.

If you share a taxi the minimum cost a HELLO-Taxi or a NON-STOP- Taxi is about 1.800 HUF from Railway Station to University Campus (UNI-HOTEL), ask for the special price for the University. Other taxi companies may ask double or more!



We will issue a printed conference volume, a conference CD and it will be available an on-line version of the Proceedings.
