COMPUTER AIDED TECHNOLOGY PLANNING

In the field of Production Engineering far-reaching changes have taken place in the industrially developed countries. The most important character of this new technological period is the direct appearance of programmable automation and information technology in manufacturing processes.

Computer assistance of the production engineering works requiring more and more special knowledge - planning of technology processes and design of tools, jigs and fixtures in particular - have to be considered an organic part of these changes. CAxx techniques and technologies (e.g.: Computer Aided Design = CAD; Computer Aided Manufacturing = CAM) and their synthesis in CIM (= Computer Integrated Manufacturing) mean a number of the most important tools for increasing efficiency of industrial production, as well as quality and marketability of products.

The complementary special knowledge of CATP (= Computer Aided Technology Planning) will mainly be concentrated on the following topics:
  • Principles, methods and systems engineering of CATP in the field of discrete technology processes.
  • The hierarchic system of CAPP and tasks to be solved on every single level of the system.
  • Planning of cutting and metal forming technology processes including their manufacturing means.
  • Integration problems of CAxx technologies e.g.: CAD/CAPP, CAD/CAM, CAPP/CAM integration. Connections with Production Planning and Manufacturing Resources Planning.
  • Material Handling Technology Planning by means of computers with special regard to Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMSs).

The general purpose of this block is to give an advanced technology planning knowledge for the students. The block is going to perform, first of all, the functions of ability developing, therefore it lays emphasis both upon the theoretical and practical training. The latter means a continuous computer utilization including attaining the use of the system building software tools, independent developing of the subroutines, programme parts of technological object, as well as application of disposable CAPP programs, systems.
