European Documentation
Centre

The Agreement signed by, among others, the Directorate General on Educational and Cultural Affairs of the European Commission on 20 October 1999 granted the University of Miskolc the right to establish an independent centre for European documents.
Anybody wishing to study publications of this kind has free access to the material that the European Documentation Centre receive. The collection is placed in the EU-section of the reading room of the Central Library. In addition to providing access to the literature on the EU and the documents of accession, we wish to give assistance to the work of the courses of the Centre for European Studies.
The main objective of the European Documentation Archives is to enhance both the educational, the practical and the academic and research work of the students and lecturers of the University of Miskolc as well as of any other institutions and individuals. In addition to special literature on the European Union, the public can get specialised assistance from our professional librarians who provide detailed information for their queries.

Foreign Language Teaching Centre

The Centre's predecessor was established in 1950 under the name Russian Language Service Department. Following several modifications of the name and structural affiliation it has been operating as an independent central unit since 1996.
The major objective of the Centre is to provide foreign language training and to teach foreign languages for special purposes for the students of the university (in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish). The students of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty can take part in the training of specialised translators in the English and German languages. The Ph.D students of the university can take a special Ph.D language exam at the Centre.
Since 1981 the Centre has been conducting state examinations of language proficiency, the first of its kind outside Budapest.
The English Teaching Resource Centre, which was set up jointly with the British Council and the University of Miskolc, has been operating here since 1993.
