Bartók Béla Insitute of Music, University of Miskolc
Music teaching in Miskolc has a rich past of more than a hundred years. The first tertiary education of music in Miskolc was founded in 1966. Originally it was a faculty of Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music located in Miskolc more specifically, in the elegant building of the Music Palace, whose Concert Hall, the Bartók Hall was built in rococo style and it is one of the most beautiful interiors in the city. In 1997 this faculty joined the University of Miskolc as the Bartók Béla Institute of Music.
The high standards of the education is shown by the results of competitions, radio recordings and the many opportunities of concerts. The chorus and the orchestra of the Institute give at least four concerts a year. Furthermore, the smaller ensembles, the Female Chorus, the String Orchestra, the Cello Ensemble and the Brass Ensemble often perform on various concerts. Our ensembles not only perform in our beloved city, but abroad as well; concert tours, competitions, festivals in different parts of Europe were and are on schedule. Additionally, our students also perform at the department concerts organized by the teachers, so that they get more and more experience in performing.
Occasionally our teachers also give concerts at the Music Palace by their own or chamber music concerts with their colleagues. Masterclasses are held at our Institute every year, held by numerous Hungarian and internationally distinguished artists. Our students and teachers can also take part in ERASMUS programs (for instance in Trento, Bratislava, Cologne or Banska Bystrica.)
