History of Philosophy Department The Institute currently offers two undergraduate programs, a 4-year MA program in philosophy, and a 3-year BA program in liberal arts. The MA program won't accept new students. As part of the restructuring of higher education, the Hungarian government decided to cut down the number of undergraduate programs students can apply to. Philosophy is one of the several subjects which cannot be taught in the framework of an independent program on the undergraduate level. Philosophy has become an elective modul of the liberal arts BA program, which also includes as elective moduls aesthetics, communication, ethics, and religious studies. The program is something like a general program in humanities. As it covers a large number of diverse subjects, teachers participating in the program come from practically all institutes of the Humanities School. A reduced version of this program is also offered in correspondence format. We also plan to launch three new MA programs, an MA in philosophy, and a teachers training program in ethics and in philosophy. Their projected starting date is 2009. The Institutes also participates in the PhD program in literature. It is in charge of the subprogram entitled Semantics and Hermeneutics. Inquiries should be addressed to the Gábor Forrai (chair). |
