SHORT DESCRIPTION: The English Foundation Programme for International Students (Preparatory Year) has been designed for students who wish to study at the University of Miskolc, but do not yet have the necessary level of English language competence and study skills to start a bachelor, master or PhD program.

The aim of the English Foundation Programme is to educate international students to acquire the skills necessary to communicate effectively in social interactions.
Language improvement is the core element of the programme, it provides a stable foundation in English vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and the development of receptive and productive competences, as well. International students will also study the features of English academic language. In addition, students participating in the programme will be able to carry out learning and research tasks in their chosen field of study and apply the competences required in autonomous learning and research in their current and future training programs. Furthermore, intercultural communication, Hungarian language and culture are also included in the programme

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:

Written part: Grammar & Vocabulary test, plus a short (cca. 250-300 words) essay on a given topic.
Oral part: A short online interview with the teaching staff. It lasts about 10-15 minutes.

You will be notified about the times of the exam parts in email. The oral interview will take place in a video call (no phone call possible), with cameras on. Make sure you are available in your own time slot. It is your responsibility to answer the call at the designated time. The call will be repeated if there is no answer for the first call. In case there is no answer for the second call either, your application process will end.

Requirements for the video interview:
What to expect at the video interview?
It is important not to study a text about these points before the interview, as your natural use of English is required, and your spontaneous answers will be appreciated.
All the applications will be assessed by the Admission Board, and applicants will be notified of the results in email following the final decision.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The University reserves the right not to launch the study programme in case of insufficient number (less than 6 ) of applications.

In this case the tuition fee is refunded to the applicant by the university.
