Commemoration of the 1956 Revolution

2018. október 19.

The 62th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and fight for freedom was commemorated at the University of Miskolc. The event took place in  the ceremony hall of the university, in which Gergely Eperjesi and Anna Lénárt performed scenes from that era, Gellért Schulz and Péter Pecsmány sung, and the members of the Szinvavölgyi Néptáncműhely danced (folk dancers: Liliána Szabó, Lili Lakatos, Ernő Matiscsák, Viktor Víg and Dániel Sztojkó).

A formal speech was given by Dr. Nóra Jakab, the Vice Rector for Education and Quality Assurance, and then Enikő Krajnyák from the Faculty of Law spoke about what 1956 means for her as a young person today.

After that the participants of the commemoration event placed flowers in several locations: at the 1956 memorial park by the bell for the students who died in ’56; in Lecture Hall I (where the youth of the university held a meeting on 22 October 1956); at the Szalay relief plaque and the E/1 student hostel; at the plaques for students who died on 4 November 1956:  for mechanical engineering student Gábor Kiss, mining machinery engineering student Gábor Kölber, and Kálmán Molnár, nicknamed “Csurák”.
