Dr. Kocziszky RE-Elected as member of Monetary Council


Prof. György Kocziszky, former dean of the Faculty of Economics, has been selected as an MNB (Central Bank) Monetary Council member for a second term. He was first made a member of the council in 2011, and that term was due to expire on 5 April 2017. He will serve for another six years as a member of the most important decision-making organ of the Hungarian Central Bank, which is made up of 5-9 members.

Russian students at the Healthcare Faculty


A delegation from the Ural State University of Physical Culture (Russia) were guests of the Faculty of Healthcare from February 16-23. The ten-member group of students and instructors was led by Dr. Olga Kolomietc, Vice-rector for international affairs, and Dr. Nadhezda Petrushkina, head of the Physiology Department.

Recent graduate wins MOL Group International Competition


Just a few days before her graduation ceremony, Anikó Dóra Kazup was victorious in the finals of the MOL Group Female Engineers MOL ProgramMe award competition. She was the only Hungarian in the finals, competing on 30 January against two women from Pakistan, two from Croatia, one from Italy and one from Slovakia. Along with the award, she also immediately received a position working for the MOL Group.

Ambassador of Chile visits campus


The Miskolc campus was visited on 1 February by the Ambassador of Chile to Hungary, Ambassador Verónica Chahin Sarah.

Geological and Geophysical Institute Forms New Department


An agreement was signed on 31 January 2017 between the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary (known as MFGI) and the University of Miskolc to create a new department.

Mechanical Engineering Faculty leaders meet in Miskolc


On January 27 a day-long meeting was held among leaders of the faculties of mechanical engineering from three universities: Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Szent István University (Gödöllő), and the University of Miskolc.

MAK offers a “Material science school tour"


Spectacular and attention-grabbing natural science experiments were part of an event introducing the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering (MAK) to interested secondary schools students. It took place on 26 January in the “Palace of Music” in downtown Miskolc.

University stand popular at EDUCATIO Expo in Budapest


A miniature version of the imposing main entrance of the University of Miskolc drew visitors to the University stand at the 17th EDUCATIO International Education Expo held in Budapest. A delegation of around 30 represented the leading institute of higher education and knowledge centre of Northeast Hungary.

President of Hungary visits Campus, Gives Lecture


Dr. János Áder, President of the Republic, visited the University of Miskolc on 7 December 2016 at the invitation of the University leadership and the Miskolc Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. During his time on campus, President Áder held a lecture in front of a large audience on the topic of “Challenges in environmental sustainability and their connection with society and the economy”, and took questions on the topic after the lecture.

The University at the Budapest Water Summit - Hungary's President visits MFK stand


The Faculty of Earth Science and Engineering (MFK) took part in the Budapest Water Summit, where heads of state, ministers, and representatives from the international civil, scientific and commercial sphere discussed issues related to sustainable water management.

Vehicle Engineering and the Vehicle Industry Conference at the University of Miskolc


The Conference on Vehicle Engineering and the Vehicle Industry was held at the University of Miskolc on 17-18 November 2016. The aim of the conference was to bring together university teachers, researchers and students and experts, researchers, developers and manufacturers from industry, in the fields of vehicle engineering education, research and manufacturing.

“The Forint Turns 70 Years Old” exhibition opens at the university


The forint came into use 70 years ago, and to commemorate this outstanding event a spectacular exhibition opened on 17 October on the ground floor of Building A/4.

Strategic partnership agreement between the university and HELL Group


A long-term strategic partnership agreement between the University of Miskolc and HELL was formed on 18 October 2016. HELL is best known for producing energy drinks and a factory is located not far from Miskolc, but the HELL Group has various other interests as well.

The academic year begins for international students in the Faculty of Economics


In the 2016/17 academic year 34 students are beginning their studies in the Master (MBA) or Doctoral Programme at the Faculty of Economics, either as fee-paying students or as recipients of the Stipendium Hungaricum (SH) scholarship.

European University Basketball Championship to take place in Miskolc


The City and the University of Miskolc will host the 2017 European University Championship in basketball. The event will be held from 16-23 July with 16 male and 12 female teams taking part. Not long ago Miskolc was visited by Peter George, the technical delegate of the European University Sport Association (EUSA) and a renowned member of the basketball community, in order to inspect the preparations.

Dual study programmes at the University of Miskolc


The project laying the foundation for the accreditation and curriculum development of dual study programmes started at the University of Miskolc in 2013. As a result, instruction could be started in altogether 9 BSc courses at three faculties. In September 2015, 50 freshers started their studies in such a programme after a successful admission procedure.

Four lecturers awarded on teachers’ day


As many as four lecturers of the University of Miskolc were given a prestigious award by Zoltán Balog, Minister of Human Resources in the celebration held on occasion of Teachers’ Day on 4 June.

Supercomputer team among the best in the world


As the only one from Europe, the IT team of our university qualified for the final in the world’s most prestigious supercomputer competition. In the final of the Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge competition, our students will compete with students from China, Russia, Singapore, Thailand as well as students from world famous MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Stronger connections between Takata and the University of Miskolc


On 28 April, 2015, TAKATA and the University of Miskolc entered into a new cooperation agreement. On behalf of the company, the agreement was signed by Kersten Bachmann, CEO of TAKATA Safety Systems Hungary and Emese Mizsei HR director, and on behalf of the university by Rector Dr András Torma and Chancellor Dr Csaba Deák. The agreement was also signed by Péter Pfliegler, vice mayor of Miskolc.
