The team members are María Alejandra Suárez Vargas (Colombia), Agra Adipta (Indonesia), Denis Silas Nkwabi (DR Congo), Hamza Alyazeri (Iraq), Mohamed Ayed Ibrahim Fahd Elbalawy (Egypt), William Andrew Mremi (UR Tanzania) and Rafael Valadez Vergara (Mexico), all of them are international master and PhD students at the University of Miskolc and members of the EAGE Miskolc Student Chapter.

The first and second places were won by the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia) and Federal University of Bahia (Brazil).  In a European context, the University of Miskolc team was one of the best, beside Freie Universität (Berlin) and the IFP (French Institute of Petroleum, Paris).

Mohamed Elbalawy said he was excited about the GeoQuiz and did not doubt to join the team immediately, whose members are from different Geoscience disciplines (Geophysics, Hydrology, Geology). “I was delighted to work with such a talented group of young Geoscientists from different scientific backgrounds and countries. It was an honor to represent the University of Miskolc in this competition. As a team, we are looking forward to continuing the progress we have made in the first phase of the competition.“ He also pointed out that the team "needs funds to go deeper and win more titles for the University of Miskolc” since the best three teams received a fee waiver for three members of the team chapter in the registration of the 82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition 2021, organized in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, however, the travel expenses are not covered by the EAGE.

In Hungary, the first EAGE Student Chapter was founded at the University of Miskolc in February 2012, and it has remained the only one of its kind till this day. The EAGE Miskolc Student Chapter looks forward to expanding its spirit of knowledge, research, and community throughout all the citizens of the University City. About this, María Alejandra Suárez Vargas (vice-president of the chapter) commented: “We found ourselves in an interesting activity that made us naturally become a team, joining our true interests for our profession and that eagerness to enjoy the moment.”

Finally, the president of the student chapter, Rafael Valadez, invited all students from the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering to join the Student Chapter, where students can share the philosophy of community growth and knowledge-sharing through teamwork.
