Accommodation

The Bolyai Halls of Residence of the University of Miskolc are the largest unit of university campus accommodation in the country. The seven buildings, situated next to each other in close proximity to the main university buildings, house some 1,800 students in 2-4 bedded rooms. In addition the students have facilities for private study, recreation and entertainment at their disposal. The institution thus provides assistance with both education and social life. The Bolyai Halls have won the "Excellent Hall of Residence" award twice.

The university is responsible for the management of the halls,

but students can participate in this work and express their demands through their own delegates to the Student Council. The system of student self-government operates within the legal framework of university statutes and regulations, and this participation helps to create the most favourable atmosphere for student life.

Community life in the halls is based on norms and requirements that have been developed by generations of students who respected ethical traditions. The Halls' self-government takes the fostering of such traditions as one of their duties.
The Bolyai Halls organize professional conferences, seminars, exhibitions and sports events, and also provide economical accommodation open to the public in the summer months, either for organised parties or for individuals.
The halls of residence are situated 1km from Miskolc-Tapolca, and 5km from the city centre in a well-maintained park of 100 acres.

Sports Life

The sports activities of the students cover four closely-related areas.
University courses which include compulsory sports courses. Students taking up such courses can choose from among the following fields: swimming, badminton, tennis, football, basketball, volleyball, fitness training, gymnastics, aerobics, and karate. The course leaders are teachers of physical education with special coaching qualifications.
The Students' Sports Club (DSK) for those wishing to take part in more professional training than that offered by the compulsory units, who can thus acquire their credits independently. There is a membership fee to be paid when joining the club. The Students' Sports Club is run by students with the professional assistance of the Department of Physical Education.

The Sports Club of the University of Miskolc (MEAFC) which offers facilities for professional sports in 13 sections as follows: table tennis, athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, orienteering, tennis, badminton, gymnastics, swimming, water polo, rambling, and canoeing. Our basketball and tennis teams are in the first division, whilst the water polo team is in the second division. Our orienteering sportsmen have won medals in the World Championship in recent years.
Apart from the compulsory courses and the club sports events, the university halls, the Cultural and Sports Committee of the University, the various departments, and some companies organize occasional sporting events at the university and student camps outside the university (e.g. skiing, canoeing, etc.).
The facilities of the university include a circular sports hall, a training hall, a conditioning gym, football fields, athletic tracks and fields, and tennis courts.
The facilities are suitable for international first-class championships as well as for recreational sports programmes. The Department of Physical Education can organise such programmes on request.
