Nationality: Ecuadorian

Study programme: Mikoviny Sámuel Doctoral School of Earth Sciences

Year of appointment: 2020

I am an Ecuadorian student at the Environmental Management Institute who arrived in Miskolc in Autumn, 2017 as Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder for a MSc program, and nowadays is a second year PhD candidate in Hydrogeology.

During my way through the hydrogeology studies, I had collected theoretical and practical knowledge, I had the opportunity to see from near the water management procedures and policies of Hungary, and I had acquired working experience by the Summer Practice and Institute Investigation projects enrollment.

But not everything is only about studies, there is a cultural and social part as well.  The University has a wonderful international community, which is composed by the Hungarian students as host country plus all the new nationalities arriving to the university. I have made amazing friends from around the world from this life experience.

The University of Miskolc is a well-known educational institution in earth sciences, supported by a history of hundred years. As international students, the door to it is open to become part of this experience by studying some of the numerous courses offered by the institution in English. The geographic location makes the campus a perfect study spot surrounded by nature, but near the city as well.

When did you start your studies here and why did you choose the University of Miskolc?

I had been living in Miskolc since 2017 when I decided to start the journey of a master's program. I was searching among the educational institutions in Hungary that offer earth science specializations, and I ended up with finding the University of Miskolc and its options for various carriers.

Why do you like to study in Miskolc?

Besides the great historical development of the Earth Science Faculty, for me, the calmness of the city and the surrounding natural environment of the campus helped to choose the University of Miskolc to study Hydrogeology.

How do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself back in Ecuador applying the knowledge that I am acquiring through the large journey of studies. I am developing my abilities to be able to share this knowledge with the community and help the scientific development of my home country.

Do you have any recommendations for future students?

Decide carefully about the way you are thinking, enjoy the way to your goals, learn about science, and live in the present.

What is your mission as a student ambassador?

To share my experience about living in Hungary and studying at the University of Miskolc with people from my home country. I would like to express, from my own perspective, why this university offers great options for the earth science scientific community.
