When did you start your studies and why did you choose the University of Miskolc?

I began my studies at the University of Miskolc in 2024. I chose this university because it is one of the most diverse and welcoming institutions in Hungary for international students. It also boasts a highly qualified teaching staff, in addition to the beauty and tranquility of the city of Miskolc.

What was your first impression when you arrived in Hungary? Did you notice any cultural differences?

When I first arrived in Hungary, I was impressed by how peaceful and organized everything was. The architecture, the public transportation system, and the overall atmosphere felt very welcoming. One cultural difference I noticed was how much people value personal space and privacy, which I found interesting and respectful. It was a new environment for me, but I adapted quickly and grew to appreciate the unique rhythm of life here.

What are/were your biggest challenges during your studies and how did you overcome these challenges?

One of my biggest challenges during my studies was adapting to a different educational system with new expectations and learning styles. At first, managing multiple assignments, deadlines, and independent study required a lot of adjustment. I overcame this by developing a solid routine, setting clear priorities, and using planning tools to stay organized. I also connected with classmates and mentors, which gave me both academic support and motivation. This experience helped me grow personally and taught me how to stay focused under pressure.

In your opinion, what makes the University of Miskolc stand out among other Hungarian universities?

I have participated in almost all the programs and activities organized by the university, such as the Lillafüred trip, quiz nights, and many others. These activities helped me connect with other students and made my campus life more enjoyable.

What are the places and activities that an international student should definitely visit or try in Miskolc?

Without a doubt, Miskolctapolca and the Bükk Mountains.

Do you and other students from your country (or similar cultural background) keep any of your traditions while living in Miskolc? If yes, can you give an example?

Yes, we do keep some of our Syrian traditions while living in Miskolc. In general, we gather almost every day, which helps us stay connected and support each other. Sometimes we cook traditional food, celebrate holidays, or simply spend time talking and enjoying each other’s company, just like back home.

What skills and benefits have you already gained from studying at the University of Miskolc?

Studying at the University of Miskolc has helped me gain many valuable skills. I’ve improved my critical thinking, time management, and teamwork abilities through group projects and academic tasks. The most important advice I would give is: don’t be afraid to ask for help and stay active in student life. Also, try to stay organized and manage your time well, it really helps with studies and stress.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to help active/future students of the University of Miskolc?

If I could choose a superpower, I would choose the ability to read minds. This way, I could understand what students are feeling or struggling with, even if they don’t say it out loud. Sometimes students feel shy, stressed, or lost, and they don’t know how to ask for help. With this power, I could support them better, give them advice, and make sure no one feels alone.
