Health care for scholarship holders

As a scholarship holder, you are entitled to two types of medical insurance:

  • social health insurance (TAJ),
  • additional private health insurance.

The University of Miskolc along with the staff of the Directorate for Scientific Affairs and International Relations (IRO), will assist you in obtaining both types of medical insurance. While, the administration of the private medical insurance is relatively quick, it still takes some time to arrange. Therefore, it is strongly advised that you leave your country with health insurance to cover the initial period of your stay in Hungary. Obtaining the TAJ-card (social health insurance card) takes a longer time.

Health care for self-financing students

Self-financing students are strongly recommended to obtain private medical insurance. The staff of the IRO is ready to assist with this process. The University of Miskolc has a contract with a specific insurance company, which may vary each semester. If you prefer to choose a different private medical insurance, you will need to visit the chosen health insurance fund and make an agreement individually.

Health care in general

First aid and emergency medical care are free for foreigners. However, for other types of treatment, you may need to pay.

EU citizens are insured through the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) when in another member state. This card entitles them to the same rights and obligations regarding social security as citizens of that member state. The EHIC covers only ‘medically necessary’ services (e.g.: dialysis treatment, oxygen therapy), but does not cover deferred care.
