No, it’s not because we’re trying to meet your whole family! In Hungary, your mother’s name is an official part of your identity and helps with things like residence permits, bank accounts, and other official processes.
If you’re eligible, you’ll take a short online oral exam where we test your motivation and English skills. Think of it as a friendly quiz to show off what you know. Don’t worry, all the tips and requirements are on the programme’s website, so you won’t be flying blind!
Absolutely! No need to panic, if you studied in English at high school or university, just show us an official Medium of Instruction. UM happily accepts this, along with IELTS, TOEFL, or any equivalent certificate.
First, pay your tuition to get your Final Letter of Acceptance, your golden ticket to Hungary! Then grab your Hungarian VISA and come to UM for registration week, and let your international mentor help you settle in and explore the campus.
The Integrated Foundation Programme – Preparatory Course in English for Engineering, Business Studies and Social Sciences for International Students (Preparatory Year) has been designed for students who wish to study at the University of Miskolc, but do not yet have the necessary level of English language competence and study skills to start a bachelor, master or PhD program. The aim of the programme is to educate international students to acquire the skills necessary to communicate effectively in social interactions. Language improvement is the core element of the programme, it provides a stable foundation in English vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and the development of receptive and productive competences, as well. International students will also study the features of English academic language. In addition, students participating in the programme will be able to carry out learning and research tasks in their chosen field of study and apply the competences required in autonomous learning and research in their current and future training programs. Furthermore, intercultural communication, Hungarian language and culture are also included in the programme.
You will be notified about the times of the exam in email. The oral interview will take place in a video call (no phone call possible), with cameras on. Make sure you are available in your own time slot. It is your responsibility to answer the call at the designated time. The call will be repeated if there is no answer for the first call. In case there is no answer for the second call either, your application process will end.
It is important not to study a text about these points before the interview, as your natural use of English is required, and your spontaneous answers will be appreciated.
All the applications will be assessed by the Admission Board, and applicants will be notified of the results in email following the final decision.
The University reserves the right not to launch the study programme in case of insufficient number (less than 12) of applications. In this case the tuition fee is refunded to the applicant by the university.
