Please, choose a quote (from a movie, book, etc.) that best describes you.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” — Winston Churchill

This quote resonates with me because I have learned that perseverance is key throughout my academic and professional journey. Whether I am analysing complex geophysical data or adapting to new environments, it is my determination to keep moving forward, which defines me, regardless of challenges.

When did you start your studies and why did you choose the University of Miskolc?

I began my studies at the University of Miskolc in September 2023. I chose this university because it is renowned for its robust programmes in Earth Science Engineering and Geophysics. The University of Miskolc offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, which is essential for developing a deep understanding of geophysics. Additionally, the university’s strong ties with industry and its focus on innovation were crucial factors in my decision.

What are the places and activities that an international student should definitely try in Miskolc?

Miskolc is rich in history and natural beauty, offering a variety of experiences for international students. I highly recommend visiting Lillafüred, where you can explore the stunning Palota Hotel and the surrounding natural attractions, including waterfalls and caves. The Cave Bath in Miskolctapolca is another must-visit; it’s a unique relaxing experience in thermal waters inside a natural cave. For a more social experience, the downtown area of Miskolc offers a variety of cultural events, cafés, and restaurants where you can enjoy Hungarian cuisine.

What are/were your biggest challenges during your studies and how did you overcome these challenges?

I consider the academic expectations at the graduate level, combined with being far from home, to be at the top of the biggest challenges list. The initial culture shock and the demanding coursework in geophysics required a significant adjustment. So, to overcome these, I got involved in the academic community by participating in student organizations such as the EAGE, AAPG, SEG Student Chapters, and TEKH where I can engage with peers and faculty. This involvement helped me build a support network, which has been invaluable in overcoming academic and personal challenges.

What skills and benefits have you already gained from studying at the University of Miskolc?

Studying at the University of Miskolc has significantly enhanced my analytical and technical skills in geophysics, particularly in subsurface analysis and the use of specialized software. Additionally, I have developed strong research skills through my coursework and practical experiences, including field schools and internships. Beyond academics, the diverse international community at Miskolc has broadened my cultural understanding and improved my ability to work effectively in global teams.

How do you think your Miskolc University degree will help you in your life and career?

My degree from the University of Miskolc will be a cornerstone for my career in the geosciences and energy sectors. The combination of technical expertise and practical experience I have gained will make me a strong candidate for roles in energy companies, research institutions, and environmental agencies. The university’s emphasis on innovation and sustainability aligns with my career goals of contributing to the global energy transition, particularly in the fields of geothermal energy and carbon capture and storage.

What is the most important thing or advice you would recommend to active/future students of the University of Miskolc?

My advice to current and future students is to stay curious and proactive. The University of Miskolc offers numerous opportunities for academic and personal growth, from research projects to student organizations. Take advantage of these resources, engage with your professors and network with your peers. Consistency and active participation will not only enrich your academic experience but also pave the way for future career success.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to help active/future students of the University of Miskolc?

I think it would be the ability to foresee future challenges and opportunities. With this power, I would guide students through potential difficulties in their academic journeys, providing insights on how to navigate complex situations and seize opportunities that align with their goals. This foresight would be invaluable in helping students make informed decisions about their studies and careers.
