University citizens raised one million forints through the ‘Don’t Toss It, Donate It!’ charity campaign based on returnable bottles. The amount will support the medical treatment of a student from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Miskolc who uses a wheelchair.
As part of the “Don’t Toss It, Donate It!” charity campaign launched by the Directorate of Operations, Sport and Colleges at the University of Miskolc, returnable bottles were collected across the University Campus. The deposit refunds amounted to one million forints over the course of a few months. The campaign’s first beneficiary is Máté Pribisán, a wheelchair-bound student from the Faculty of Economics.
Due to a congenital condition causing severe muscle spasticity, Máté’s mobility is significantly limited. He has been selected for a surgery in the United States, scheduled for July 2025, which could greatly improve his quality of life. The university community aimed to contribute to the costs of the several-week rehabilitation following the operation. This was announced at the special donation ceremony held in the University’s glass hall.
“Helping one another and charitable action are at the core of the University of Miskolc’s philosophy,” said Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University, in her welcome speech. She emphasized not only the importance of supporting noble causes that assist individual students, but also highlighted the availability of scholarships for students in need, mentoring opportunities, community service, and family-friendly initiatives.
The “Don’t Toss It, Donate It!” campaign is an innovative initiative at the University of Miskolc, combining charity with environmental protection, as Péter Boda, Director of the Directorate of Operations, Sport and Colleges, explained. “It is the result of the work of many people – something the university community could truly relate to,” he added.
