The Institute of Economic Theory and Methodology of the Faculty of Economics organized a conference entitled Statistics+ Kondratyev.
The theme of the conference in 2025 is related to the work of Nikolai Dmitrievich Kondratiev (1892–1938). Kondratiev was a Russian economist who became known for his theory of long-term economic cycles. In the 1920s, based on empirical data, he recognized that the economy does not only operate in short and medium-term cycles, but also exhibits long-term fluctuations lasting 45–60 years. In his analyses, he used agricultural prices, industrial production, and foreign trade data to show that the economy follows a regular pattern of boom and bust cycles. The methodology used by Kondratyev was essentially a precursor to quantitative economics.
The current conference linked social science methods to current economic and social challenges, encouraging participants to discuss topics ranging from K-waves and the use of artificial intelligence to the long- and short-term effects of economic decisions.
The presentations and results presented will help us understand and address the social and scientific challenges of the future.
