At its public ceremonial senate meeting for the presentation of awards, the University of Miskolc honored its educators and researchers for their outstanding professional and scientific achievements, as well as the companies and individuals whose work has strengthened the university’s reputation both nationally and internationally.
1949 in Miskolc – the University of Miskolc opened its 75th academic year
At the ceremonial senate session inaugurating the new academic year, the University of Miskolc welcomed its first-year students as full-fledged members. This year marks the university’s 75th academic year. The very first opening took place on September 18, 1949, in the building of the Földes Ferenc Secondary School, which, as of September 2024, has come under the University of Miskolc’s maintenance.

Seventy-five years ago, on September 18, 1949, the first lecture was held at the Heavy Industry Technical University. The predecessor of the University of Miskolc began teaching in the building that today is the Földes Ferenc Secondary School. On the anniversary of this historic event, a commemoration took place at the memorial plaque affixed to the high school’s wall.
Miskolc professors are at the international forefront of research
Six professors in the field of engineering sciences at the University of Miskolc were included in the 2024 Ioannidis bibliometric ranking, which assesses the work of 217,000 researchers worldwide based on citations of their scientific publications.
Adventures on Campus – a Hit with Audiences at Researchers’ Night
This year’s Researchers’ Night at the University of Miskolc was once again a crowd-pleaser, offering around 130 science outreach programs to visitors in the University Town on September 27.
Based on last year’s positive feedback, Researchers’ Morning was also held that same day, featuring science-themed attractions specifically aimed at the youngest age groups.
