In addition to supporting the academic work of students and enhancing their knowledge of the history of the subject, the partnership contributes to the promotion of the university’s educational objectives, the preservation and development of its traditions.

The Faculties of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Materials and Chemical Engineering of the University of Miskolc are worthy heirs of the School of Mining Officers founded in Selmecbánya 290 years ago, on 22 June 1735. Based on the training and educational culture of the world’s first technical higher education institution, they preserve and carry on the traditions of professions that are of decisive importance in today’s economy, and they strive to develop them further to meet the challenges of the future,” said Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University, at the signing of the cooperation agreement.

It is the duty of the University of Miskolc to continue and promote the development of its unique training and research tasks, and to maintain the centuries-old professional culture.

– the Rector made clear the institution’s commitment in this field.

The National Hungarian Mining and Metallurgy Association supports the efforts of the University in preserving the prestige of the mining and metallurgy professions, and in fulfilling its scientific and traditional tasks – emphasised Dr. Anna Szombatfalvy, President of the Association. They are determined to give substance to the cooperation, based on the convincing fact that mining and metallurgy “were, are and will be”, and that the modern world cannot do without these professions.
