At a public ceremony of the Senate of the University of Miskolc, the graduating students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics took the vows of engineering and received their diplomas on the morning of 26 June. At the event, the PhD doctoral degrees, the Bosch Prize, the diploma of the Gábor Dénes Diploma Thesis Competition and the awards of the Student Body Council were presented.
In the academic year 2024/2025, 177 students graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology – 28 of them with honours – in the higher education specialisation of computer engineer, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, English-language Master of Mechanical Engineering, English-language Master of Logistics Engineering, English-language Master of Computer Engineering, and further education.
The Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Zoltán Siménfalvi emphasised in his speech that the graduation ceremony is not only the end of the past years, but also the beginning of new paths.
A graduate here has not only knowledge, but also responsibility. Because engineers and computer scientists don’t just design machines or write software, they shape systems and build worlds.
Real value lies in the way we relate to each other, to problems and challenges.
The ceremonial Senate meeting also included the awarding of doctoral degrees, the Bosch Prize, the Gábor Dénes Diploma Thesis Competition, and the Outstanding Teacher and Honour Diplomas.
Honorary Doctorate was awarded to Prof. Basavantappa Doddamallappa Kumbar, PhD Doctorate was awarded to Rafael Ruben Boros, Vince Kruchina, Róbert Lipták, Márton L. Kiss, Krisztián Mihály, Ádám Nagy and Eszter Réka Trencsényi, PhD.
The Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics has awarded the distinction “Professor Honoris Causae Facultatis Artium Mechanicarum et Rerum Informaticarum Universitatis Miskolciensis” to Prof. Dr. Ulavathi Shettar Mahabaleshwar. As the Dean of Davangere University, India, and Professor of Mathematics at the University, he was honoured for his joint research projects with the University of Miskolc and for his many face-to-face and online courses in fluid mechanics for students and young researchers in Miskolc.
For the academic year 2025/26, the “Student Ambassador” of the University of Miskolc will be Fadi Atallah, a student of the faculty. In the “Outstanding Student” category, the “Dean’s Commendation” was awarded to Kristóf Ferenc Hágen and Dr. Eszter Réka Trencsényi.
The “Bosch Prize”, which was awarded by the Robert Bosch factories in Miskolc, has a tradition of more than 10 years at the University of Miskolc. The prize is awarded to outstanding graduating students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology and provides them with job opportunities. This year, the prize was awarded to Tanuj Namboodri, a Master of Mechanical Engineering student.
The Novofer Foundation’s “Gábor Dénes Diploma Thesis Prize”, which is awarded to graduating students in the field of technical informatics and related frontier areas, was awarded to Dávid Gönczi, a Master’s student in Computer Engineering.
The Student Body Council of the University of Miskolc awarded the “Outstanding Teacher” diploma to Dr. János Juhász, Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics and the “Diploma of Honour” to Miklós István, a student of the Bachelor of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics.
In honour of the graduating students, the Palace Trombone Quartet, consisting of students of the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music, performed Corelli’s Sonata in D minor, Movement IV, with Bálint Molnár, Levente Somodi, Illés Marton and Simon Szomor.
