The Hungarian Society of Soil Science announced the thematic program “The Year of Soil Pollution and Soil Sealing” at an event held at the University of Miskolc.
The event was opened by Dr. Lajos Szalontai, Deputy Dean for Education and Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering, University of Miskolc, and then the thematic year was inaugurated by Dr. Endre Dobos, President of the Hungarian Soil Science Society (MTT) and professor at the Institute of Geography and Geoinformatics. Representatives of the sponsoring companies in attendance expressed their commitment to the MTT and the cause of soil protection.
As part of the program presenting the goals of the thematic year, two lectures were delivered: Dr. Zoltán Szabó, Chair of the MTT’s Soil Contamination Section, and Gergely Maucha, Head of the Surface Monitoring Department at the Lechner Knowledge Centre, each illuminating the challenges of soil pollution and soil sealing with detailed and comprehensive expertise.
At the meeting held on July 9, it was stated that protecting soils, preventing pollution, and responsible soil use are all our shared concerns.
The most important role of the Hungarian Soil Science Society is to deliver this message — from the professional community to as broad a segment of society as possible — primarily through education and among farmers.
