The University of Miskolc also became a member of the newly established space industry network

The HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network signed an agreement with nine universities and two ministries to establish the Hungarian Spacelab Network. The signing ceremony took place on 14 July in Budapest.

The Hungarian SpaceLab Network aims to develop the knowledge, infrastructure, and organizational frameworks necessary for space research, and the signatories of the memorandum of understanding have resolved to create a space industry network that promotes innovation and sustainable development.

“There is no 21st-century science without space science,” said Ferencz Orsolya, the ministerial commissioner for space research at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation. She also added that the cooperating institutions’ task is to strengthen and carry forward domestic space research.

If we want to catch up with the space-industry achievements of countries with similar populations, we need as many outstanding researchers as possible, and establishing the network is an important step on the way,

– emphasized Orsolya Ferencz.

Hankó Balázs, the Minister of Culture and Innovation, said at the event that a country’s research, educational, and scientific achievements are also reflected in its presence in the space industry, space research, and space sciences. He noted that there are currently 140 instruments orbiting outer space in which Hungarian experts have been involved.

The agreement was signed by László Csernoch, Scientific Vice-Rector of the University of Debrecen, Lénárd Darázs, Rector of Eötvös Loránd University, Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, Tamás Fedeles, Educational Vice-Rector of the University of Pécs, Ferenc Friedler, Rector of Széchenyi István University, Levente Kovács, Rector of Óbuda University, Zoltán Kónya, Scientific and Innovation Vice-Rector of the University of Szeged, János Levendovszky, Research and Innovation Vice-Rector of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, and László Monostori, Director of the HUN-REN Engineering and Business Intelligence Research Laboratory.
