“There is genius, power and magic in daring” – Graduation Ceremony of the Faculty of Economics, Bartók Béla Faculty of Music

“The social responsibility and international relations of the University of Miskolc are decisive for the development of the region”, said Irén Novák, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation at the joint graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Economics and the Bartók Béla Faculty of Music.

186 students graduated from the Faculty of Economics and 73 students from the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music in the second semester of the academic year 2024/2025. The graduates received their diplomas at a public ceremony of the Senate of the University of Miskolc on 27 June 2025. The diplomas were awarded by Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector, Prof. Dr. Mariann Veresné Somosi, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Dr. Sándor Papp, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

In her welcome speech, Irén Novák, Deputy State Secretary for Arts and Community Education of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, quoted Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s thoughts on the potential of knowledge and performance:

Whatever you can do or dream, do it! There is genius, power and magic in daring.

Referring to the perseverance and achievements of the graduating students, he paid tribute to the faculty and staff of the University of Miskolc who made it possible for the students’ dreams to come true. He added that the University of Miskolc is not only an educational institution, but also an economic, social and innovation engine of the region. Through its knowledge transfer activities, its training tailored to the needs of the labour market, its social responsibility and its international relations, it plays a key role in the development of Miskolc and its region, to which the cultural government is pleased to contribute.

Prof. Dr. Mariann Veresné Somosi, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, welcomed the new graduates with a speech from the words of Béla István Széchenyi to his son. She cited the example and the willpower of an active man who recognised and fulfilled his duties. As a guiding light, he recommended that people should not simply strive for survival and material goods in a competitive society, but should find joy in working with and for others for the benefit of the community.

Awards and Recognition

At the graduation senate meetings of the Faculty of Economics and the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music, the Habilitation Diploma, Professor Emeritus title, Ph.D. doctoral degrees, the University of Miskolc International Student Ambassador Award, Bosch Award, Outstanding Teacher Diplomas and Diplomas of Honour were awarded.

In the Faculty of Economics, Dr. Zoltán Bartha, Dr. Áron Kincses and Dr. Dóra Szendi, associate professors, were awarded habilitation diplomas.

Prof. Dr. Tamás Sikos Tomay, Professor Emeritus, was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in recognition of his distinguished work.

The title of “Student Ambassador of the University of Miskolc” was awarded to Mayssae Choukri, a student of the University of Technology and Technology College of Miskolc, for her outstanding academic achievements, scientific and professional successes, and her community work for the benefit of the University of Miskolc and its community in the academic year 2024/25.

The BOSCH Prize was awarded to Tamás Bencsik, a student of the Bachelor of Commerce and Marketing.

In recognition of its outstanding relations with students, its cooperative and helpful attitude and its work for the development of education at the University, the Student Council of the ME awarded the Distinguished Teacher Diploma to Dr. Erika Horváthné Csolák, Master’s Lecturer of the Faculty of Arts and to Edina Orosz-Tokár, PhD Assistant Lecturer of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Ildikó Boros, a student in the Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management, Zsolt Balogh, a classical instrumentalist (cello) and music teacher (cello), and Boglárka Bene, a student in the Bachelor’s degree in Music Teacher (cello), received the Diploma of Honour for their outstanding work in student advocacy and student and public life at the university.
