When did you start your studies and why did you choose the University of Miskolc?

I commenced my studies at the University of Miskolc in September 2024. I chose this university because of its strong emphasis on practical training in health sciences, its international environment, and the welcoming atmosphere I experienced during the application process. The program in Nursing also aligned perfectly with my career goals and personal passion for patient care.

What was your first impression when you arrived in Hungary? Did you notice any cultural differences?

When I got to Hungary, I was amazed by the charm of its architecture and the warmth of its people. One cultural difference I noticed was the Hungarian emphasis on traditions like; greeting etiquette and local festivals, which made me feel welcomed but also curious to learn more.

What are/were your biggest challenges during your studies and how did you overcome these challenges?

The language barrier was my biggest challenge, especially during my first weeks in Hungary. Fortunately, the university offers Hungarian language courses and provided mentors who really helped translate and guide us, especially when processing important documents and attending appointments.

In your opinion, what makes the University of Miskolc stand out among other Hungarian universities?

The University of Miskolc stands out for its strong sense of community, especially among international students. The university offers excellent academic support, hands-on training opportunities, and a beautiful campus that encourages learning and personal growth. Its commitment to creating an inclusive, multicultural environment makes it especially welcoming to students from all over the world.

What do you like the most about campus life at the University of Miskolc?

I love the soothing, peaceful environment that makes it easy to relax and focus. There’s also an amazing sense of unity among international students; we support each other like family and always find ways to connect, celebrate, and grow together.

What kinds of activities, programmes or student organizations have you taken part in during your studies at the university?

I have been actively involved in the ISSRR organization, the multilingual programs, and the International Dinner among other occasions, which gave me a chance to connect with students from different cultures and learning new perspectives.

What are the places and activities that an international student should definitely visit or try in Miskolc?

I would highly advocate to explore the Miskolctapolca Cave Bath and Hiking in the Bükk Mountains; it is a magical experience! Downtown Miskolc offers cozy cafés, local markets, and cultural spots that help you feel the rhythm of the city.

Do you and other students from your country (or similar cultural background) keep any of your traditions while living in Miskolc? If yes, can you give an example?

Yes, we definitely do! We often cook traditional Kenyan meals together and celebrate national holidays. These moments bring us closer and help us feel at home even when we’re far away.

What skills and benefits have you already gained from studying at the University of Miskolc?

University’s more than lectures, it’s a playground for growth. I’ve sharpened my confidence, learned how to lead, collaborate under pressure, and juggle priorities like a pro.

What kind of academic support have you received from the university or your faculty?

From professors who actually remember your name, to study groups that turn pain into productivity, academic support is everywhere. Libraries are goldmines, and lectures feel like a pathway to success.

How do you think your degree of the University of Miskolc will help you in your life and career?

My degree from the University of Miskolc is equipping me with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in the global healthcare field. Studying in an international environment has strengthened my communication, adaptability, and cultural competence qualities that are essential in nursing.

What is the most important thing or advice you would recommend to active/future students of the University of Miskolc?

Stay open-minded, get involved, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. The University of Miskolc offers great support systems; use them!

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to help active/future students of the University of Miskolc?

If I had a superpower, I would choose the ability to instantly relieve stress and anxiety. I would use it to support students during exams, homesickness, or difficult moments, helping them stay calm, focused, and motivated throughout their journey at the university.
