The UNESCO General Assembly declared 20th September as the International Day of University Sport, but in order to maximise participation, this year the university celebrated it two days later. A series of events across Europe, at hundreds of universities, brings thousands of students into movement to celebrate this day. In addition to sports that required pre-registration, students, teachers and staff were treated to sporting activities, performances and surprise challenges.

These words were said at the opening ceremony of the job fair, held in the university's assembly hall. The event was attended by 34 national and international companies from the region and across the country.

SCIENCE-BASED CRISIS MANAGEMENT - SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE AGAINST NEWLY EMERGING THREATS

The three-day Trans-Atlantic Research and Development Interchange on Sustainability (TARDIS) World Programme on Sustainability, which explores local and global sustainability challenges from a variety of perspectives, hosted a three-day international scientific conference on the UM campus on 14-16 September 2022. The meeting brought together experts from engineering, mathematics, physics, ecology, economics and political science from the United States, Austria, Ireland, Portugal, Croatia, the United Kingdom, the Vatican, Belgium, India and Hungary. The presentations covered topics such as a nature-positive approach, social justice, the perception of nation states, the links between the circular economy and sustainability, tackling the drinking water crisis, and the harnessing of underground energy.

Recently, two researchers from the University of Cauca visited UM. Prof. Zita Horváth, rector, welcomed the researchers from the University of Cauca and Fabian Gonzales, a Colombian-born businessman who has been living in Hungary for 30 years. The biodegradable film based on manioc starch is planned for use mainly in agricultural areas.

The "Legends of Artificial Lift" honorary title was awarded to Dr. Gábor Takács, Professor Emeritus of UM’s Institute of Petroleum and Natural Gas, also Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Artificial Lift Conference on, which was held in Galveston, Texas, on 23-25 August. He was the thirteenth recipient of the award, but the first non-American to be honoured.
