Entitled “Some Thoughts on Artificial Intelligence,” the MTA Miskolc Academic Committee and the University of Miskolc organized a joint program in connection with the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
At the event, speakers shed light on the development of artificial intelligence from the perspective of several scientific disciplines. Topics included Hungarian technical AI research, intelligent systems, and machine perception (Csaba Benedek, Machine Perception Research Laboratory, HUN-REN SZTAKI); AI developments at the University of Miskolc (Károly Nehéz, GÉIK Institute of Informatics); Hungarian-developed language models from ParancsPULI to ChatPULI (Noémi Ligeti-Nagy, ELTE Linguistics Research Center); determining biological age with the help of artificial intelligence (Csaba Kerepesi, BioAgeAI Research Group, HUN-REN SZTAKI); the economic impact of artificial intelligence (Zoltán Bartha, ME GTK Institute of Economic Theory and Methodology); and the processing of cultural heritage with the help of AI (Csaba Szabó, Director General, Hungarian National Archives).
With the implementation of the Scientific Data Analysis and Methodology Center project, carried out in collaboration with the Hungarian National Archives, the University of Miskolc has taken a significant step towards the use of artificial intelligence for scientific, research, and educational purposes, said Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector, in her welcome address at the conference. In her opinion, the conference, organized in collaboration with the MTA Miskolc Academic Committee, draws attention to the most pressing issues of our everyday lives, as well as to the problems, in addition to its usefulness.
Prof. Dr. Károly Kocsis, President of the MTA Miskolc Academic Committee, pointed out that the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences provides an opportunity for the society representing the scientific community of the region to receive national attention.
