Between November 13 and 16, the Music Palace in Miskolc will host the prestigious III. Jenő Hubay Violin Competition, which continues the golden age of Hungarian violin education and the intellectual legacy of the Hubay school.
The selection of the Bartók Béla Faculty of Music at the University of Miskolc as the venue for the competition is particularly fitting, given that the Music Palace, built between 1925 and 1927, was inaugurated as the “Miskolc Municipal Jenő Hubay Music School,” , recalled Sándor Papp, dean of the faculty, at the opening concert of the competition for violinists under the age of 22.
The Jenő Hubay Violin Competition was founded in 2020 by Katalin Kokas and Barnabás Kelemen for the youngest generation of violinists in Central and Eastern Europe, those under the age of 20. Violinists under the age of 22 from Hungary’s neighboring countries and the Visegrad Four countries were eligible to apply for the competition. The total prize money for the event is €5,500, but the competition offers much more than that: it opens up further opportunities for young violinists in their international careers, as the finalists of the Hubay Competition will be invited to the 6th Ilona Fehér Violin Competition in July 2026. The chairman of the jury for the 3rd Jenő Hubay Violin Competition is Kristóf Baráti (Hungary), and the members are Bartłomiej Tełewiak (Poland) and Maria Spengler (Austria).
