42nd Miskolc International Mineral Festival

One of the oldest and most popular events at the University of Miskolc welcomes visitors interested in the Earth’s hidden treasures, dazzling minerals, gemstones, decorative stones, rocks, and fossils for the 42nd time. The programs will be open to visitors for two days.

  • 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Exhibition and fair
  • 10:00 Opening ceremony. The Mineral Festival will be opened by Prof. Dr. Gábor Mucsi, university professor and dean (Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, University of Miskolc)
  • 10:00–17:00 Earth science playhouse
  • 11:00 New exhibitions at the Institute of Earth Sciences for Raw Materials Research. Presentation by Dr. Ferenc Mádai, director of the institute.
  • 11:00, 12:30, and 14:00 Giant and crystal caves / Csaba Egri’s 3D presentation on the cave world of southern Brazil
  • 3:30–4:20 p.m. Nautilus, Fossil of the Year / Slide show by Dr. Emőke Mohr (ELTE TTK Department of Paleontology) (location: Lecture Hall III)
  • 4:40–5:20 p.m. Pyrite, Mineral of the Year / Slide show presentation by Boglárka Topa (University of Miskolc) (venue: Lecture Hall III)
  • Between 12:00 and 16:00, guided tours of the mineralogy, petrology and paleontology exhibitions at the Institute of Raw Materials Research and Earth Sciences will be available every hour.

MARCH 8 (Sunday) – University of Miskolc, main building
