Working Toward a Sustainable Future – The University of Miskolc at GreenTech

The University of Miskolc participated as an active exhibitor and professional partner in the GreenTech Green Energy and Sustainability Trade Fair held at the ZalaZONE complex in Zalaegerszeg. The event, held on May 28–29, provided an opportunity to demonstrate how research conducted in higher education is transformed into practical, sustainable industrial solutions.

At the exhibition, the University of Miskolc was represented by its traditional engineering faculties, which, materials science, and environmental science, are active participants in the domestic research, development, and innovation ecosystem, and also work closely with ZalaZONE, which focuses on the development of automotive innovations and technologies.

The Faculty of Engineering, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology presented examples of how university research projects can support companies’ environmentally friendly and efficient operations, and what opportunities exist for collaboration between local innovation centers and the business sector. The event also featured a presentation by the Electric Racing Miskolc student team, which is closely involved in automotive innovation through the development and testing of electric race cars.

At the conference organized during the GreenTech trade show, in addition to presenting the scientific value of research and development, there was a strong focus on the challenges of creating a more livable, greener future and on the social changes accompanying technological change. The rector of the University of Miskolc, Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, was invited to the roundtable discussion titled “Green Transition: Idea, Business, or Possible Survival Strategy?” She explained that environmental sustainability has been an integral part of the university since the founding of the Faculty of Mining Engineering in the 18th century. Now,

the strategy through 2030 focuses on a people-centered approach.

She emphasized the implementation of a “green and smart campus,” where society and sustainability are integrated into education, research, daily life, and the operation of the university campus.
