The Senate of the University of Miskolc has unanimously nominated Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, the current rector, as the next head of the institution. The decision was made during a closed session held behind closed doors.
The university’s current five-year senior leadership term will end in January 2026. The Universitas Miskolcinensis Foundation, the institution’s maintainer, announced a public call for applications for the position, which received one valid submission: Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth. In early June, the candidate outlined her vision for the university’s future at staff and student forums.
According to the university’s regulations, the nomination is made by the Senate during a rector-electing session, which took place on 19 June. During this session, Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth was unanimously elected by secret ballot as the nominee for the position of rector.
The Senate has forwarded its proposal to the Universitas Miskolcinensis Foundation for approval. According to the call for applications, the foundation will make its final decision by 30 June. The new five-year term will begin on 1 February 2026, and run through 31 January 2031.
