The Faculty of Health Sciences (ETK) at the University of Miskolc and Clinical Research Unit Hungary Kft. (CRU) have signed a long-term cooperation agreement. In the future, they will launch joint R&D projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and digital biomarkers; in addition, the partnership will provide students with new professional training and research opportunities.
The immediate precursor to this collaboration was the research and development project titled “Development of a Multimodal Screening Booth for Digital Biomarker Research,” carried out by CRU Hungary Kft. in 2025, titled “Development of a Multimodal Screening Booth for Digital Biomarker Research,” for which the company entrusted certain development tasks to the Institute of Health Sciences and Medical Technology at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Miskolc.
During the further development of the “Innoscreen non-contact platform” developed by CRU Hungary Kft., experts from the Institute of Health Sciences and Medical Technology at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Miskolc participated, among other things, in the development of the body composition analyzer’s unique IT integration, the structural design and construction of the platform, as well as in development and operational testing.
The experiences gained from the joint project confirmed the professional value of the collaboration and revealed new development opportunities that require the diverse, complementary competencies of both the university and the corporate partner. Accordingly, the cooperation agreement signed on September 15 covers, among other things,
research in health and sports sciences, digital biomarkers, developments in health informatics, artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and the creation of joint R&D projects.
One new research direction of the collaboration is the exploration of rapid, radiation-free, and non-invasive spinal examination options for pregnant women. CRU Hungary Kft. will provide professional and equipment-related support for the planned developments, while the university will contribute to the joint effort with its research expertise in health sciences and technical informatics.
The partnership also plays a significant role in education, as it opens up new practical opportunities for university students. The agreement directly provides for professional internships, current undergraduate research and thesis topics, doctoral research programs, as well as professional visits and joint training activities.
Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Miskolc, emphasized the following regarding the collaboration:
Relationships in which research expertise can be linked to real-world development projects are particularly valuable to the university.
She added that the partnership established with CRU Hungary Kft. creates opportunities both to explore new avenues of research and to involve students and young researchers in practical work. According to the dean, the development of non-invasive spinal examination methods could later be directly applied in prenatal care.
Dr. Péter Kovács, managing director of CRU Hungary Kft., emphasized that the university’s involvement in the previous research project complemented their activities with professional expertise that significantly contributed to the platform’s development. The managing director noted that the current agreement provides an opportunity to expand this successful partnership and establish new international collaborations on both the academic and industrial sides.
