Circular industrial connections – CIRCLETECH Industry Impact Day

The industry networking day promoted knowledge exchange, highlighted real-world applications, and explored how cutting-edge research can be translated into marketable solutions.

The event, linked to the international CIRCLETECH project, presented industry-led research and applied developments in four strategic areas: urban mining and recycling, modern recycling process technologies, circular manufacturing technologies, and the transition to sustainable energy. It drew attention to the University of Miskolc’s commitment to innovation in the circular economy. He emphasized the key role of cooperation between research institutes and industry in the development of sustainable technologies, while also highlighting how applied science can contribute to a greener, more resource-efficient future.

The event, which focused on the challenges and opportunities of bringing research results to market and how to catalyze successful technology transfer, was opened by Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc. As an introduction, Dr. Anikó Raisz, State Secretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Energy, gave an attention-grabbing presentation, followed by thought-provoking remarks from Adrienn Barthel-Malik, Strategic Manager at Market Építő Kft.

Next, representatives of companies interested in the circular economy took the floor. József Kovács, senior development expert at MOHU MOL Waste Management Ltd., shared his valuable experiences on turning waste into value. István B. Illés, head of research and development at Metal Waste Solution Kft., gave an inspiring presentation on innovative chemical metallurgical methods for extracting precious and non-ferrous metals from electronic waste, encouraging further cooperation. Péter Vaskó, national production manager at Wienerberger Téglaipari Zrt., addressed the audience on the topic of sustainable energy transition and industrial hydrogen utilization. Marketing manager Péter Bodnár further expanded on the topic in his presentation on renewables.

Participants sought answers to the question “How can technology transfer processes be catalyzed?” during a roundtable discussion: Roland Ladányi, managing director of MiReHu Nonprofit Kft., Tamás Szegedi, head of the technical department at Robert Bosch Energy and Body Systems Kft., Prof. Dr. Gábor Mucsi, dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Miskolc, and György Vécsi, CEO of MVM Mátra Energia Zrt.

Following the discussion, representatives of the CiRCLETECH project research groups at the University of Miskolc took the floor. Prof. Dr. József Faitli spoke on the topic of urban and waste mining, Dr. Sándor Nagy spoke on the topic of process engineering in recycling, Dr. István Sztankovics spoke on circular manufacturing technologies, and Dr. Tekla Szép spoke on sustainable energy transition. They presented their areas of research and outlined future opportunities for cooperation with industry.
