A database compiling publication performance metrics from “World’s Top 2% Scientists”—a project linked to researchers at Stanford University and Elsevier—has been released, and it includes 11 researchers from the University of Miskolc.
The latest, ninth edition of the scientometric database known in the international academic community as “World’s Top 2% Scientists” was published on October 7, 2026. The compilation is based on Scopus data as of August 1, 2026, and measures researchers’ citation impact across 20 major scientific fields and 174 subfields.
The database evaluates researchers in two categories: the single-year impact list counts citations received in 2025, while the career-long impact list measures the citation impact of a researcher’s entire body of work through the end of 2025.
The University of Miskolc is represented by 11 researchers in the database. Eight appear on the single-year list, six on the career-long list, and three on both.

Citation impact over the entire career, in order:
It is a remarkable achievement that György Kaptay, Klára Hernádi, and Gábor Mucsi are ranked in both categories.
The database is not a traditional ranking of excellence, but is based on composite citation metrics compiled using a uniform methodology, which, in addition to the number of citations, also takes into account the Hirsch index (a metric that simultaneously determines the publication output, scientific impact, and citation rate of researchers and scholars), co-authorship, and author positions. The inclusion of researchers from Miskolc thus demonstrates that their work is generating widespread resonance within the international scientific community.
