The University of Miskolc and the University of Szeged have jointly launched a Proof of Concept program of national significance for the commercialization of university research. The opening event of the project in Miskolc was held in the University City by the University of Miskolc’s project company, InnoME TTC.
The Proof of Concept program, implemented in partnership between the Technology Transfer Company of the University of Szeged (SZTE TTC Zrt.) and the Technology Transfer Center of the University of Miskolc (InnoME TTC Kft.) aims to turn university research results into marketable innovations and technologies, while also promoting the development of startups, spin-offs, and corporate collaborations. The collaboration combines the areas of excellence of Szeged and Miskolc in a complementary manner and covers the entire innovation value chain, from research and technological recognition to market launch. The partnership thus opens a new chapter in the history of domestic research, development, and innovation cooperation. The National Research, Development and Innovation Fund contributed nearly HUF 500 million in non-repayable support to launch the project (application ID: 2024-2.1.3-POC-2025-00005).
At the opening event held at the University City of Miskolc, the rector of the University of Miskolc, Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, emphasized in her welcoming speech that unlike previous concepts that supported the market entry of research and development results, university technology transfer centers cover the entire value chain, from knowledge capital mapping to commercialization. The partnership between the universities of Szeged and Miskolc complements each other, offering more effective opportunities for the utilization of knowledge in the domestic and international environment.
Beáta Várnai, managing director of the host company InnoME TTC Kft., said:
Our goal is to ensure that the research results of the University of Miskolc are converted into market value as much as possible and generate real economic and social benefits. The Proof of Concept program provides the resources to bridge the gap between the idea and the realized innovation.
András Ujhegyi, CEO of Technology Transfer Ltd., which heads the consortium formed between the universities, stated:
The cooperation between the two university innovation centers is exemplary on a national level. The program promotes the creation of competitive products and services based on research knowledge.
He added that they would like to make being a researcher “cool” and are looking for colleagues and partners among researchers.
As a result of the consortium, both universities and both regions will benefit from the strengthening of knowledge transfer in the form of new corporate partnerships, faster developments, and greater economic dynamics. This was confirmed in her presentation by Réka Barabás, director of the National Innovation Agency and professional supporter of technology transfer companies, who called the consortium cooperation between the university knowledge transfer companies of Szeged and Miskolc a pioneering initiative in this regard.
The opening event focused on the key objectives of the Proof of Concept program: examining the practical feasibility of innovative ideas; creating prototypes and early development results; strengthening knowledge transfer between the University of Miskolc, which focuses on four areas, and the corporate sector; supporting product-oriented research and strengthening market-oriented thinking; and fostering and strengthening co-innovation between the two universities.
