In the spring of 2026, the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music at the University of Miskolc will once again enliven the region’s cultural life with a large-scale multidisciplinary arts program featuring more than twenty events: The Spring Festival series will be held for the fifth time between March 30 and May 29, 2026.
The University of Miskolc Spring Festival kicks off with the traditional Easter concert in the university’s ceremonial hall on March 30. The main venue for this year’s series of events, which runs through the end of May, will be the Zenepalota, but concerts will also be held at the Balázs Győző Reformed Church, the Nyilas Misi Community Center, the House of Arts, and the ceremonial hall of the Miskolc Academic Committee. Many of the event’s programs are free to attend; tickets for events with an admission fee can be purchased online or on-site for 1,500–2,500 forints. Discounted tickets are available for students, seniors, and university students.
In addition to classical piano and guitar recitals, the program includes anniversary concerts, such as the 45th anniversary of the Ede Reményi Chamber Orchestra and the 25th anniversary of the Anima String Quartet. An international guitar competition will also be held during the festival, featuring contestants from seven countries, and the audience will have the opportunity to meet the award winners at a gala concert—noted Dr. Sándor Papp, Dean of the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music, at a press conference about the festival.
A special feature of the event series is its genre diversity: the audience can choose from a wide range of offerings, spanning from Baroque early music through the world of Broadway all the way to a performance by the JazzInside Band, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The festival concludes on May 29 with a grand closing concert featuring students from the Faculty of Music performing alongside the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra, a fitting culmination of the spring music season.
The dean noted that, through its organization of the Miskolc University Spring Festival, the Faculty of Music places special emphasis on nurturing talent and social responsibility, as evidenced by the recital evenings of graduating students, professional days, and a charity concert to aid in the recovery of a sick little girl.
Following the press conference, representatives of the Faculty of Music and the Béla Bartók Music and Dance High School in Miskolc laid a wreath at the memorial plaque dedicated to their namesake on the wall of the Music Palace to mark the 145th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
The piano piece performed during the opening of the press conference, Bartók’s “II. Ábránd” (BB27), also served as a tribute to Béla Bartók; it was performed by László Pap, a piano major in the Master of Arts program at the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music.
