The intersection of science and economics gives rise to ideas that can truly shape the future. This principle underpins the strategic cooperation agreement signed by the Technology Transfer Company of the University of Szeged (SZTE TTC Zrt.) and InnoME TTC Kft. of the University of Miskolc “Consortium Proof of Concept Program – Cooperation between Szeged and Miskolc” under the winning tender with the identification number 2024-2.1.3-POC-2025-00005.

The program, which received nearly 500 million forints in non-repayable funding from the NKFI Fund, opens a new chapter in the history of domestic research, development, and innovation (RDI) cooperation. The aim of the initiative is to turn scientific results from laboratories into real, marketable innovations, accelerating the path from research ideas to social application.

The strengths of Szeged and Miskolc complement each other in this collaboration: Szeged has outstanding experience in medicine, life sciences, and biotechnology, while Miskolc has outstanding experience in industrial and engineering innovation. The synergy between the two knowledge centers thus covers the entire innovation value chain, from technological validation and prototype development to market launch.

The Proof of Concept program not only finances new research, but also brings about a change in mindset in the world of university innovation,

emphasized András Ujhegyi, CEO of SZTE TTC Zrt. “Our goal is to support researchers’ ideas with commercially sustainable models that will give rise to real, long-term businesses. We are proud that Szeged and Miskolc are working together to build a national innovation base that transforms scientific results into economic and social value.”

The professional background and innovation security of the project is reinforced by the expertise of InnoME TTC Kft. at the University of Miskolc, which plays a key role in industrial and technological validation and market implementation.

Beáta Várnai, Managing Director of InnoME TTC Kft., said: “This collaboration shows what Hungarian innovation is capable of when institutions think together instead of competing. Szeged and Miskolc are not rivals, but two knowledge centers that reinforce each other. We believe that by working together, we can accelerate the path of ideas to market and shape the domestic innovation culture in the long term.”

At the signing of the cooperation agreement, Dr. Judit Fendler, Chancellor of the University of Szeged, and Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, also spoke. Both emphasized that the consortium extends beyond the walls of the universities: it contributes to strengthening the knowledge-based economy and connecting regional innovation networks.

According to Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, the program

opens up a new dimension in the cooperation of domestic scientific networks,

while Dr. Judit Fendler emphasized that

the consortium is a concrete step toward bringing university innovations more quickly to society and economic actors.

The Proof of Concept program is also a pilot project that can serve as a model for other higher education institutions in the long term. The Szeged-Miskolc collaboration shows that combined knowledge is a real driver of innovation—and that the Hungarian research community is capable of creating solutions that are competitive on an international level.
