The Sports Center of the University of Miskolc has won the opportunity to launch a new team sport, Raqball. Students will be the first in Hungary to learn about this new form of exercise, and later on, the residents of Miskolc will also have the chance to try it out.
The Raqball project was launched by the International Raqball Federation and the European University Sports Association (EUSA) with the mission of introducing this innovative, fast-paced team sport to European university communities. Eight universities across Europe won the opportunity to participate, including the University of Miskolc.
After the launch of the competition, the University of Miskolc’s letter of motivation was very impressive and truly inspiring. I was particularly impressed by the infrastructure, the sports facilities, and the fact that despite its size, the university remains a human-scale community rather than a huge, impersonal institution,
said Frédéric Branger, Director of Operations and Development at the International Raqball Federation.
The University of Miskolc has undertaken to actively promote Raqball at the university through events, matches, and training sessions to enrich both recreational activities and physical education classes, and also provides long-term opportunities as the recreational sports section of the MEAFC sports club.
The introduction of this new sport is a great opportunity for the university. We are one of eight selected institutions, and we may be among the first in Hungary,
emphasized Szilárd Bene, head of the University of Miskolc’s Sports Center.
We would like to introduce it to as wide an audience as possible, first at sports afternoons, then in physical education classes and at events such as Open Day. In consultation with the Hungarian University Sports Federation, we will also take it to the MEFOB Fest in May,
he added.
Raqball requires skill and strategy, but it is also entertaining and easy to learn for all age groups.
